Hanging out at the farmers market on Friday night (5/29), blissfully unaware that the doctor was going to call with disappointing news. Baby need to come out tomorrow!
Trying to relax
Doctor VDH is ready! He's been a fantastic doc with both pregnancies.
Can't wait to meet that baby!
There he is!
Out in the world and not happy about it!
Inconceivable! I think he looks alot like Wallace Shawn (e.g. Vizzini from Princess Bride). Looking on the internet for photos I see that lots of parents think there newborns look like Wallace Shawn.
Ah, the first hat. Bond men do seem to have a thing for hats.
First snuggle with mama
While the lab was analyzing his blood we got to hang out in the recovery room. Lots of skin time with mom. After an hour we got the results; Elliott was going to need a blood transfusion and some time under the blue lights. Just the same as big sister Melina.
Chillin' in the warmer bed with the blue lights.
Mama wheels in to check on Elliott
Melina was missing her mama and wanted to meet Elliott
Melina saw Elliott with the light visor "Does he have eyes?"
A few moments out of the lights with the visor off.
Checking out mama
Sorry buddy, back under the lights. At first he didn't mind, but after about five days he really started hating the light time.
There was no rooming-in at the level 3 NICU, but the hospital did have parent room elsewhere that we could use. So once Elliott was cleared to eat, we trekked up there and scrubbed in so Tish could nurse him every three hours. Later he was moved to the level 2 NICU where he stayed in the room with Tish and could nurse when he wanted.
Dada time. No hats?!
Melina gently "holding" her little brother.
First bath!
Sharing mamas big gulp water cup and getting some much needed braid work. During our stay at the hospital Bubbie has been filling in admirably and Melina has been a real trooper. This was her first time without either of us, and it lasted for nearly a week. She had some rough spots, but being with bubbie seemed to make it okay. The new room has only space for mom and baby, so Morgan is home now.
Bye for now Elliott and mama. Come home soon!
